We are heartbroken to share the passing of our colleague and dear friend, Brandie Ingalls.

Brandie devoted more than 15 years of service to Legal Aid of the Bluegrass, beginning as an Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps Legal Fellow in our Lexington office. Through her fellowship, she worked to combat domestic violence and empower survivors to seek safety and justice—work that would define much of her career. In 2012, she joined our staff as an attorney, focusing on domestic violence and domestic relations law, where she became a fierce and compassionate advocate for her clients.

Over the years, Brandie served our organization in many roles, most recently as Intake Manager. In this position, she was often the first voice our clients heard in moments of crisis—offering not only legal guidance but also reassurance and hope. Her leadership, dedication, and deep belief in access to justice helped shape our organization in lasting ways, and her impact will continue to be felt throughout our work.

Before joining Legal Aid, Brandie served as a law clerk for the Honorable Christopher J. Mehling, II, in Kenton County Family Court. She earned her law degree from Northern Kentucky University’s Salmon P. Chase College of Law in 2008 and was an active member of the legal community through her work with the Kentucky Bar Association, the Northern Kentucky Bar Association, and as Chair of the Kentucky Equal Justice Family Law Task Force.

Brandie will be remembered not only for her professional accomplishments, but for the light she brought to those around her. Her contagious smile and generous spirit brightened our hallways and uplifted colleagues and clients alike. Her impact on our clients, colleagues, and community will not be forgotten.
