LABG Medicare SHIP: Kentucky’s Only Benefits Enrollment Center

Legal Aid of the Bluegrass (LABG) has been a cornerstone of the National Council on Aging (NCOA) network since 2011. Originally one of only 20 Benefits Enrollment Centers (BECs) nationwide, in 2024, we became a part of an expanded cohort of 90 organizations dedicated to bridging the gap for low-income Medicare beneficiaries through benefit access. 

Our mission is to ensure those in need can access vital programs to lower costs related to healthcare, nutrition, and other daily essentials. This mission is powered by a holistic approach and a deep-rooted network of partnerships with state agencies, healthcare providers, and aging organizations. These collaborations have fueled a robust referral system and a dedicated volunteer corps of laypersons and professionals.

The impact of our journey is clear.  In the past 11 of our 15 funding years, we have:

•            Assisted 9,100+ individuals living in our service area
•            Applied for nearly $29 million in life-changing benefits 

We are proud to share that the NCOA Center for Economic Well-Being has once again invested in our program. This new wave of funding will launch new initiatives aimed at our core goal: uplifting our community and improving the quality of life for those we serve.
