Summary: Legal Aid of the Bluegrass (LABG) seeks an Ombudsman Assistant for its Ashland, KY-based office. The Ombudsman Assistant will work with LABG’s long-term care ombudsman staff in providing supportive services to nursing home residents impacted by substance abuse. The Ombudsman Assistant will advocate for the rights of nursing home residents and help connect them to resources and other support services to mitigate the impact of substance abuse.
Responsibilities include:
- Interacting with residents of nursing homes and personal care homes, nursing facility staff, other staff members, service providers, and local funders and state oversight personnel in a professional, appropriate, collegial, and cooperative manner.
- Establishing and maintaining relationships with residents to establish trust and obtain accurate and complete information.
- Identifying, investigating, and resolving complaints made by or on behalf of residents.
- Developing, helping develop or maintaining relationships with citizen organizations and volunteers to participate in the program.
- Data entry and clerical duties; etc.
- Maintaining time records of all work related activities and enter accurate data on a timely basis into LABG’s electronic case management system as per 45 CFR Part 1626 and per LABG’s procedures.
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements, Skill & Abilities include:
- Four-year degree from an accredited College or University or an Associate’s Degree in Paralegal/Legal Studies or Social Work, or have equivalent experience (e.g. at least working with the elderly in an investigative and advocacy position).
- Ability to clearly and accurately communicate verbally and in writing.
- Ability to advocate for the community’s most vulnerable people professionally and non-confrontationally.
- Must successfully complete nursing home ombudsman certification exam.
- Ability to use office and computer technology, including case management and word processing software.
