Service to Others

We believe everyone should have a voice and an avenue of relief. Yet veterans, frail nursing home residents and undocumented immigrant victims of violence often do not. These people can find themselves in the most brutal situations. We can help alleviate their conditions.

Veterans

We hold United States Veterans and active military personnel in the highest regard. Yet when returning home, they often feel invisible and fall through the cracks when dealing with post-military service issues. We can help them navigate often complex legal issues like, among other things, access to VA benefits and healthcare, housing and homelessness issues, and wage garnishments and other employment barriers. If you are a veteran struggling with a legal problem, call 859-957-0734 . To learn more about our services for Veterans, click here.

Nursing Home Residents

Our Long Term Care Ombudsman Program advocates for the rights, dignity and independence of nursing home residents in Bath, Boyd, Carter, Greenup, Elliott, Lawrence, Montgomery, Menifee, Morgan and Rowan Counties.

We serve people living in nursing homes, personal care homes and family care homes. Our staff and volunteers visit about 1,700 frail and elderly people living in our local nursing homes at least quarterly. Many of these people have no one else to visit or check on them. We inform people and families about resident’s rights. We advocate for quality care and work to resolve problems. We provide a voice for those who otherwise would have none. Undocumented Immigrant Victims of Violence

We help immigrants living in this country without a legal status who are victims of violence. Often these people are subjected to battery, extreme cruelty, economic or sexual exploitation or other serious crimes. Sometimes immigrants are trafficked into the country, brought here for forced labor and sexual servitude.

Elder Law

Advancing age brings unique legal challenges that people find difficult to navigate. Among other things, we help elderly clients with preparing life planning documents. These include wills, powers of attorney, and health care directives. We provide these service in our regular 33 county service area and Clark, Estill, Garrard, Lawrence, Lincoln, Madison and Powell counties. For other legal issues that the elderly may encounter see our Long Term Care Ombudsman program page and our SHIP program page.
