Printer-friendly version

As an individual ages many new challenges arise. Sadly, these challenges also give rise to the opportunity for an individual to be abused by others, including those who they trusted. Legal Aid of the Bluegrass is working to help individuals over the age of 60 who have been the victim of abuse, neglect, or exploitation recover and put the pieces back together.

Elder abuse is a growing problem that comes in many forms. Some will face physical or emotional abuse from family members or others they trust. Others may fall victim to scams or be exploited by a person who they trusted to manage their financial affairs. . Others still will be left alone by those who have agreed to take care of them.

Legal Aid of the Bluegrass can help an individual deal with these issues in a variety of ways. These include:

  • Helping an individual obtain a protective order if they are physically or emotionally abused
  • If an individual has been exploited, we can help evaluate legal options to regain their property and protect themselves.
  • Helping individuals who have been neglected pursue legal remedies or put the individual in touch with other services that may be able to help.

Legal Aid of the Bluegrass takes a holistic approach to issues to help an individual protect themselves in the future by helping the individual understand their rights, draft documents such as a power of attorney, and help the individual contact community services to obtain any additional help they may need.
