The focus of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Volunteer Program (LTCO) is to advocate for the frail and elderly residents in family care homes, personal care homes or nursing facilities without whom many would have no visitors and no voice.
- We welcome your help as:
- A Friendly Visitor: Community volunteers who visit residents of nursing homes or personal care homes on a regular basis. A friendly visitor can connect a resident in need to the District long term care ombudsman who can advocate on his or her behalf. Two (2) hours of training is required.
- A Certified Volunteer Ombudsman: Community volunteers who have special training and who can help the District Ombudsman in advocating for residents. The certified volunteer may investigate and resolve complaints for residents. To be certified, one must undergo a 24 hour training course and pass a competency test.
