New Satellite Office in Maysville
Legal Aid of the Bluegrass announces the opening of a new satellite office in Maysville, Kentucky. This office operates as a legal clinic, staffed every Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Comprehend, Inc. in Maysville. Attendees will meet with legal staff to discuss their legal problem, review options, and determine a path forward, whether it involves representation, advice on next steps, or a referral to another attorney/agency.
Legal Aid of the Bluegrass (LABG) has physical offices in Ashland, Covington, Lexington, and Morehead, serving 33 Kentucky counties. Previously, the nearest office to Maysville was over an hour away by car. Research shows that access to a physical office often serves as a barrier to justice, especially in rural areas. This lack of representation creates legal deserts; in 2020, data from the American Bar Association (ABA) revealed that 1,300 counties in the US had fewer than one attorney per 1,000 residents, with many having none at all. These legal deserts have devastating and long-lasting impacts, leaving residents without the means to understand or pursue their legal options when issues arise.
Affordable representation is crucial, and the new LABG office in Maysville aims to address both accessibility and affordability. By creating a physical presence in Maysville, Legal Aid will better serve Mason County residents. Comprehend, Inc.’s offer of space for the clinic helps close the gap, positioning LABG to assist many people by addressing their legal questions in person and providing representation for complex legal issues.
LABG is deeply grateful to Comprehend, Inc. for providing space to realize these goals. Known for offering essential mental health services to the local community, Comprehend, Inc. aligns with LABG’s mission to support families, ensure fairness for all, and improve lives.
Comprehend, Inc. is located at 611 Forest Avenue, Maysville, KY 41056. The main entrance and parking lot are at the rear of the building.
